Could it be that Ezra Miller is following speedily out the door along with fellow Justice Leaguers Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill? Well considering the actors contract with Warner Bros. DC has recently come to an end and there being no official word on his plans to remain with the franchise, we could be looking at another superhero recast in the near future.
However, unlike Ben Affleck being replaced by Robert Pattinson, Ezra Miller’s departure as The Flash doesn’t have to mean his character is recast, as he portrays the Barry Allen incarnation of the speedster.
Yes, while the DCEU at one point looked somewhat strong with solo movies for all their main Justice League members, so far only two of these have made it to the silver screen. Now while 2017’s Wonder Woman and 2018’s Aquaman were massive wins for the studio, the supposed Flash solo movie has been subject to many delays for a variety of reasons and has now had the speedster’s biggest stories Flashpoint reportedly adapted into Wonder Woman 1984 in 2020.
But while recent supports try to reassure fans that Miller is waiting to wrap up Fantastic Beasts 3 before committing to Flash, Warner Bros. are apparently working on a contingency plan as new reports suggest that the solo Flash movie may introduce a new speedster to replace Miller’s Barry Allen.
Despite Miller and company being adamant that Barry Allen
will get there at some point, the theory currently is that Wally West will take
up the Flash mantle and be the new main speedster in the DCEU.
Who is Wally West?
Wally West is the third speedster to take on the Flash mantle in the comics and was The Flash for the DC Animated Universe in the nineties. However, in more recent appearances he has been portrayed as the protégé of Barry Allen in both Young Justice and The Flash TV series as part of the CW’s Arrowverse.
Of course, bringing in Wally West only leaves the door open
for Barry Allen to return to the DCEU, but with Ezra Miller’s only main
appearance being in 2017’s Justice League with cameos in 2014’s
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2015’s Suicide Squad and his
performance not going down memorably, Warner Bros. and DC may just decide on a
DC has a slew of movies coming out in the meantime while The
Flash finds its footing, these movies include Joker in October, Birds
of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) in February
2020, Wonder Woman 1984 in June 2020, The Batman in June 2021, The
Suicide Squad in August 2021 and Aquaman 2 in December 2022.
Do you think Wally West should replace Barry Allen
in the DCEU?
