In one of the most deeply-buried ledes in recent memory, Variety reports Millie Bobby Brown will join The Eternals. The news was delivered as the trade ran down its list of potential revelations during Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation at Comic-Con next week.
The Stranger Things star has already broken into blockbusters with Godzilla: King of the Monsters hitting theaters this year. She’s also playing the title role in Enola Holmes, now in production.
Fans have been hoping Brown would join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially after she visited the set of Avengers: Infinity War a couple of years ago. She would undoubtedly be welcomed with open arms if she appears on the Hall H stage during Marvel’s presentation.
There is no word on what character Brown might play, but we have a couple of clues. The Eternal best-known for her age range is Sprite, an immortal who spends his entire existence looking like a 12-year-old boy.
The casting breakdown for The Eternals did not feature Sprite, but they did include Piper. There is no Piper in the comics, but the character in the breakdown sounded a lot like a female re-imagining of Sprite. There’s nothing wrong with changing the gender of the character and the name change avoids the inevitable soda puns.
