The third and final season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones is right around the corner, which will bring an end to the four-year run of the Netflix branch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s television faction.
However, the cast of the streaming service’s first Marvel series, Daredevil, are apparently wanting an opportunity to revive the series which enjoyed a successful three-season run which was both critically acclaimed and enjoyed by fans. The news comes straight from the mouth of Vincent D’Onofrio, who portrayed Daredevil archenemy Kingpin throughout the three seasons. He, along with the rest of the main cast all felt disheartened by the news that Daredevil was cancelled after the incredible third season, but are apparently ready to jump back in to their former roles if given the opportunity.
Marvel’s Daredevil was known by many as Netflix’s flagship Marvel series. It’s not only the series that started off this faction of the MCU, but also the series that has been met with the most positive acclaim.
Beginning in April 2015, Daredevil was an action crime/legal drama superhero series focusing on the blind lawyer and vigilante Matt Murdock as he combats corruption in the New York City neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen. The series was cancelled after the show’s third season in late 2018, followed soon by the rest of Netflix’s Marvel shows.
As a series, Daredevil has been followed by Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist which all contributed to the team-up series Marvel’s Defenders. Daredevil season two also gave birth to the Jon Bernthal led two-season series, Punisher.
Fans have long speculated and campaigned for Netflix’s Marvel characters to somehow appear in the main MCU movies. The most recent fan suggestions have been that the main Defenders heroes should have appeared in Avengers: Endgame. These hopes have thus far been squandered. However, there may be potential for the shows to find new homes either on the upcoming Disney+ streaming service, or the recently acquisitioned Hulu streaming service.
Marvel’s Jessica Jones season three is scheduled to drop on June 14th.
Created by Drew Goddard, Marvel’s Daredevil stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock / Daredevil, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Franklin “Foggy” Nelson, Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk / Kingpin, Wilson Bethel in an unknown role, and Jay Ali as Rahul “Ray” Nadeem, with notable appearances from Amy Rutberg as Marci Stahl, Danny Johnson as Benjamin Donovan, Annabella Sciorra as Rosalie Carbone, and Geoffrey Cantor as Mitchell Ellison. Check out the synopsis below:
“Missing for months, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) reemerges a broken man, putting into question his future as both vigilante Daredevil and lawyer Matthew Murdock. But when his archenemy Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) is released from prison, Matt must choose between hiding from the world or embracing his destiny as a hero.”
